# Away replies

Going away? Turn on an **away reply** and Doota answers new mail for you, so
people know you'll get back to them.

Open **Account → Mail** and find **Vacation auto-reply**. Flip it on and fill in:

- **Subject** — leave it empty and Doota replies with *“Auto: Re:”* plus the
  original subject.
- **Message** — what you want to say, e.g. *“I'm away and will get back to you
  when I return…”*
- **Starts** and **Ends** *(optional)* — schedule the away reply in advance and
  let it switch itself off when you're back.
- **Reply to each sender at most** — once a day, or every 2, 4, 7, or 14 days.

> **Note**

> Each person gets **at most one** auto-reply in the window you choose, so a
> back-and-forth thread isn't flooded with the same message over and over. Doota
> also won't auto-reply to mailing lists or other automated mail — the usual way
> to avoid two robots talking forever.

If you leave the **Message** empty, Doota falls back to your normal
[signature](/guide/signatures) on the reply.
